Everton will interview Frank Lampard and Wayne Rooney for the vacant managerial position at Goodison Park, according to reports. The Toffees are now stepping up their pursuit of a new manager after parting company with Rafael Benitez on Sunday following the 2-1 defeat at Norwich.

The Spaniard has been on thin ice for several weeks but the embarrassing performance at Carrow Road proved to be a step too far for Benitez.

Extraordinarily, Everton had set their sights on former boss Roberto Martinez, who was sacked by the club in 2016 after three years in charge.

However, Everton had encountered problems trying to free Martinez up from his current role in charge of Belgium.

The Belgian FA were not prepared to comply and allow Martinez to take on both jobs at once.

Instead, they ruled he must honour his current contract which will see him lead the Red Devils out at the Qatar World Cup.

According to The Telegraph, Everton are now set to conduct interviews with both Lampard and Rooney.
