Everton are said to be ready to test the water for Christophe Galtier despite his agreement in principle to join Nice. That’s according to reports in France, where it’s claimed the Toffees are set to launch a late move for the 54-year-old, who guided Lille to the Ligue 1 title last season.

Galtier announced he was leaving the French club at the end of the season after deciding to sign off in style.

His side pipped Paris Saint-Germain to the title on the final day with a 2-1 win at Angers.

Yet Galtier feels the time is right for a new project and has already verbally agreed to join Nice, who are set to embark on a new ambitious adventure.

A deal has not yet been finalised though despite both parties being on the same page.

Lille are keen to demand compensation for Galtier with president Olivier Letang angered by their secret advances behind his back.

Nonetheless, French outlet BeFoot claim Everton are considering a swoop for Galtier as they continue the search for a new manager.

Given nothing has been signed with Nice, the Toffees could still chance their arm and look to convince the Frenchman to move to the Premier League.

Luis Campos, who worked with Galtier at Lille until December last year, has claimed he would be the perfect appointment at Goodison Park.

“Christophe has all the qualities to coach in England, technically he is very astute and is extremely detailed in his planning when preparing a team,” Campos told Sky Sports News.

“He likes a 4-4-2 system, which would fit with the Premier League and he is a fantastic motivator in the dressing room.

“He likes to build a side with quality and youth, he is someone that can develop a team ethic, and he is also a fantastic human being.”

During his time at St-Etienne, Galtier expressed his interest in succeeding Brendan Rodgers at Anfield, a position that was described as his “dream” job at the time.

However, back in January, he moved to clear up his alleged affiliation to Liverpool, claiming his English must improve before he takes a job in the Premier League.

“I know how to speak English, but I need to get better,” he said. “My dream isn’t Liverpool.”

Everton have already held talks with Nuno Espirito Santo over the position but he is now expected to take over at Crystal Palace.

The Toffees were planning ahead with Ancelotti before the Italian walked out on the club last week to re-join Real Madrid.
