Everton loanee Jarrad Braithwaite leaves opponent with blood pouring after kick
Everton loanee Jarrad Brathwaite left Middlesbrough star Dael Fry a bloody mess after kicking him in the face.
Brathwaite, who is currently on loan at Blackburn, was looking to clear the ball during the Championship clash.
Though Fry got to the ball first, heading just wide, with Brathwaite’s boot connecting near the eye.
The referee did not deem the collision worthy of a penalty kick, though Fry was left with blood pouring from his eye.
Boro boss Neil Warnock was clearly unimpressed, appearing to voice his frustrations at the fourth official.
Fry had to be substituted following the injury, which came in the 15th minute of the match.
Warnock was seen to say: “How hasn't he seen that? Ref, do you want to come over and watch the TV?
“They're saying it's a penalty on Sky, what f*****g use is that?”
Lee Hendrie, on Sky Sports commentary, said it should have been a penalty, while pundits Garry Monk and Jobi McAnuff were both in agreement that it was a penalty and should be a red card too for serious foul play.
While fans were critical of the decision, with one writing on social media: “If you need VAR to tell you that's a pen you shouldn't be a ref!”
And another put: “Anywhere else on pitch it’s a foul, terrible refereeing.”
With a third commenting: “That’s one of the worst decisions I’ve seen the ref deserves a fine or some kind accountability surely.”
