Everton fans made their message to the Premier League loud and clear – we will not go down quietly.

The Toffees were deducted 10 points during the international break for breaking Financial Fair Play rules, and supporters feel the club has been hard done by.

In retaliation, fans of the Merseysiders organised for a banner to be flown over the Premier League's standout fixture of the weekend, with neighbours Liverpool facing title rivals Manchester City at the Etihad in the Saturday lunchtime kick off. The banner read: "PREMIER LEAGUE = CORRUPT." It also had at the end of the banner "#UTFT" and "#EFC".

With Everton's game against Manchester United on Sunday at Goodison Park being after sunset, supporters chose the daytime match for the first stage of their protest.

More is planned for the visit of United, including a chant on the 10th minute, and cards for those in the stands to hold up expressing their anger.

Reports have suggested Sky Sports could even reduce the crowd noise for what TV viewers hear from inside Goodison Park regarding the explosive chants towards the Premier League.

The plane booked by The 1878s supporters group could be heard flying over the Etihad as the sound of the engine was picked up by Sky Sports’ audio but neither Peter Drury nor Gary Neville on commentary mentioned anything regarding the flyover.

In response to the points deduction that has seen Everton fall to 19th place in the table, the chair of the Everton Fan Advisory Board, Dave Kelly, said: “That’s the message of the meeting – this isn’t an Everton Football Club issue – this is a football issue, because this concerns clubs across the Premier League, and all football clubs across the country.

‌“We will show a worldwide audience on Sunday the Premier League has picked on the wrong club in Everton, and the wrong place in Goodison Park. But this is just the first page and first chapter of what will be an extremely long book, we won’t be going anywhere, any time soon – we want to get football back on the straight and narrow, and that means real change at the Premier League.

“We will keep this going all the way through to the end of the appeal against the sanction. And we will go through right to next year on a war footing – with fans from across the country coming together – to fight for change and justice.”

A first-half Erling Haaland goal put City 1-0 up after 27 minutes, as he became the fastest player to reach 50 Premier League goals, before Trent Alexander Arnold slammed home an equaliser with just 10 minutes of normal time left to play.
