Everton are showing interest in Steve Hitchen after the director of technical performance handed in his notice at Tottenham today.

Hitchen, 45, is highly regarded within the game as one of the best talent spotters around and is understood to be keen to take on a director of football role.

Everton parted ways with Marcel Brands last month and have been looking across Europe for someone with experience who can lead their recruitment and give the club better direction.

Salford-born Hitchen has previously worked as a scout for Tottenham helping them to bring in Luka Modric before working for Liverpool where he identified Luis Suarez for Damien Comolli.

The former Blackburn and Macclesfield defender then worked at QPR and Derby before returning to Tottenham.

He has taken more of a backseat in recent windows following the arrival of Fabio Paratici and has taken the decision to change direction.

He has told Tottenham he is leaving today and his reputation is likely to see him receive a number of offers with Everton understood to be keen on bringing him in to help their new look management team.
