Rafa Benitez is close to taking over as Everton manager following positive talks with the club’s board, according to reports.
The Toffees are yet to confirm a successor for Carlo Ancelotti, but it is believed Benitez could fill the vacancy and return to the Premier League two years after departing Newcastle United.
According to Sky Sports News, Benitez – who left Chinese club Dalian Yifang earlier this year – was named as the club’s No.1 choice and offered the job on Tuesday night.

Everton had been linked with former Wolves boss Nuno Espirito Santo and David Moyes over the vacant role.
However, Everton’s pursuit of Nuno slowed down, while Moyes signed a new contract with West Ham.
Benitez has had a storied career in the English top-flight, lifted the Champions League, FA Cup and the UEFA Super Cup with Everton rivals Liverpool during the years 2004-2010.

He moved on to join Chelsea on an interim basis in 2012 and claimed the Europa League, before finishing third in the Premier League table that season.
Having established himself as a highly renowned manager in the English top-flight, Benitez went on to complete spells at Real Madrid and Napoli.
However, he returned to the Premier League to manage Newcastle in 2016. He did not get off to the best start – having overseen their relegation from the top-flight.
Nevertheless, he guided the club back to the Premier League in the following season after finishing their Championship campaign as champions.
The next two season saw the club finish in 10th and 13th place before Benitez moved on in 2019.
