Everton are reportedly ‘interested in signing Wout Weghorst’ from Burnley this summer.

According to TalkSPORT, Manchester United ‘are not planning on singing the Dutchman permanently’ after his loan spell ends on June 30.

The outlet are suggesting that Sean Dyche’s side could make a move for the 30-year-old, who now looks set to return to his parent club, having made 49 appearances with a return of 11 goals for the Red Devils across all competitions.

With United’s forward stocks running thin during the early parts of the season, Erik Ten Hag brought in Weghorst in on a season-long loan to provide strength and physicality up top.

The towering forward was in fact plying his trade at Besiktas at the time, with the Red Devils buying him out of that loan agreement to bring him to the club.

Sean Dyche’s side finished the season ranked as the second lowest scoring side in the Premier League

But Manchester United are set to part ways with Weghorst with the club reportedly not wanting to sign him permanently

They payed a reported £2.6million at the time to secure him from that contract and have also paid all of his wages.

Mail Sport understands that there is no obligation for United to buy the forward and it looks like he could be on his way out, along with Marcel Sabitzer, with the Dutch manager set to look for a new front-man of the same calibre to compete with Anthony Martial.

Unfortunately, Weghorst’s time at United seems to be coming to a head, with some suggesting that the striker has failed to live up to the standards demanded at Man United, having not scored in the Premier League since joining the club.

The Dutchman is also set to hold talks with Burnley boss Vincent Kompany.

Another club who have been in the market for another forward is Everton. Mail Sport reported back in March that the Toffees would go head-to-head with Aston Villa and Chelsea to secure the signature of Roma striker Tammy Abraham.

They have also been linked with a move for Almeria striker El Bilal Toure, with the Blues keen to add another forward to their ranks.

After joining the club last summer, Weghorst has scored 11 goals in 49 appearances for United but failed to score in the league

Dominic Calvert-Lewin (left) has been injured for large parts of the season, meaning Everton’s forward stocks have been depleated

Ellis Simms (pictured) is also a promising striker Dyche can call upon, but the Everton boss will be looking to strengthen his side’s forward stocks this summer

With Dominic Calvert-Lewin injured for large parts of the campaign, Dyche’s side largely failed to find a consistent stream of goals, with the Blues scoring the second least amount of goals of any team this season.

That left the club fighting until the very last day of the season, with Abdoulaye Doucoure netting a vital, and simply sensational finish to help keep the Toffees up.

The blues also have young forward Ellis Simms who came on against Chelsea to score his first Premier League goal in March, to rescue a 2-2 draw away at Stamford Bridge.

While Simms is a very promising young talent, Dyche will be looking for a centre-forward with a little more experience.
