Erling Haaland words on Chelsea boss Frank Lampard as Marina Granovskaia eyes transfer

Erling Haaland’s ‘time in England will come’ says pundit

Chelsea are eager to beat Manchester United and Real Madrid to the signing of Erling Haaland. And the Borussia Dortmund star’s words on Frank Lampard will give the Blues hope of striking a transfer. The west London giants are keen to recruit the Norway international, who has been in blistering Bundesliga form ever since his arrival from Red Bull Salzburg 12 months ago.

Chelsea have seen Timo Werner misfire ever since his summer move from RB Leipzig.

The Germany international has scored just four Premier League goals this season, leading to the Bluesto hunt more attacking reinforcements.

The Athletic say Haaland is now being eyed as a result, with the Norway international shining at Dortmund ever since his move from Salzburg 12 months ago.

It’s claimed the Blues are ready to strike this summer, thinking their rivals will wait until 2022 when the player’s release clause of £66m kicks in.

Manchester United want Haaland, with Ole Gunnar Solskjaer viewing his compatriot as an ideal upgrade on Anthony Martial.

And Real Madrid are keen, too, as Zinedine Zidane eyes long-term replacements for the ageing Karim Benzema.

And Haaland’s previous words on Lampard will give Chelsea supremo Marina Granovskaia hope of securing a deal.

In quick-fire Q&A with ESPN last year, Haaland was asked who the one player he’d want to have played with that’s retired and replied: “Frank Lampard.”

So while the Chelsea boss may still be something of a managerial novice, it appears he could hold the key to signing Haaland.

For the Dortmund star, playing under his childhood hero may represent a big temptation.

But whether Chelsea are able to beat their domestic and European rivals to Haaland is something only time will tell.

The Blues will have to deal with Mino Raiola if they’re to bring the 20-year-old to Stamford Bridge.

And relations between Chelsea and the super-agent have been strained ever since the Romelu Lukaku fiasco of 2017, back when Antonio Conte was manager.

On that occasion, the Blues were convinced they’d sign the Belgium international from Everton.

But Raiola went behind their backs to broker a move to United instead, with Lukaku spending two years at Old Trafford before joining Inter Milan.

Meanwhile, Germany legend Lothar Matthaus recently claimed Haaland was ‘ready for the next step’ in his career after blitzing the Bundesliga with Dortmund.

He told the Bundesliga website: “This positivity that he radiates, radiates on the team which is why I think that someday, Haaland will not be playing at Dortmund anymore and will make the next step.

“He is already ready and we are proud to have him in the Bundesliga.

“Dortmund need to be pleased to have gotten him because he is a striker that fits to a club with such emotions.

“At the age of 20, he is a machine. He is a flying striker.

“He brings a positive energy in the team while also scoring goals. He is irreplaceable.”

Haaland isn’t Chelsea’s only target ahead of the summer.

West Ham star Declan Rice remains on their radar, with the England international impressing at the London Stadium this term.

Rice was at Chelsea as a youngster but was cut loose after being deemed not good enough.

And it’ll now take a gargantuan fee in the region of £70million for the Blues to re-sign their former midfielder.
