Erling Haaland totals Timo Werner’s Premier League goals in 50 less appearances

Erling Haaland has already totalled the same number of Premier League goals as Timo Werner in 50 less appearances.

The Norwegian striker took his league tally for the season to 10 in six appearances on Saturday evening by scoring in Manchester City's 1-1 draw against Aston Villa. Werner also managed to score 10 Premier League goals during his two years as a Chelsea player, but did so in a total of 56 appearances.

Haaland has also already surpassed Werner's best ever single season Premier League tally, which came in his debut campaign when he scored six times in 35 matches.

Only Bournemouth have prevented Haaland from finding the back of the net so far this season, although he did grab an assist in City's 4-0 home win over the Cherries last month.

Across the other five league matches, though, he has scored hat-tricks against Crystal Palace and Nottingham Forest, a brace against West Ham United and one in each of the draws with Newcastle United and Villa. As a result, he is currently the league's top scorer, four goals clear of his nearest challenger – Fulham striker Aleksandar Mitrovic.

Having signed from Borussia Dortmund for £54million earlier in the summer, Haaland will hope to continue his prolific form on his Champions League debut for City when they travel to Spain to face Sevilla on Tuesday night.

Despite Werner's poor league output for Chelsea, the German forward did finish as the club's joint top scorer across all competitions in his first season at Stamford Bridge.

Both he and Tammy Abraham scored 12 goals during the 2020/21 season, although only six of Werner's strikes came in the league. He followed that tally up with just four league goals in 21 appearances last season before being sold back to RB Leipzig this summer.

Chelsea sold him back to the Bundesliga side for a fraction of the £47.7million they paid for him two years ago, with Werner since scoring four in five for Leipzig, including a hat-trick against minnows Teutonia 05 in the German Cup on Tuesday.
