Erling Haaland installs £50k walk-in ice pod at home to keep on top of condition

Manchester City star Erling Haaland has reportedly splashed £50,000 on a cryotherapy chamber for his Cheshire home to keep in tip-top condition.

Haaland has been on fire on the pitch for the reigning Premier League champions so far this season, but off it he's now anything but – as his new walk-in ice pod can expose him to temperatures of as low as -200C.

Those freezing figures help treat and rehabilitate human tissue, something which is vitally important for the Norwegian goal machine as he's had many injury issues in the past.

He missed two large chunks of last season for Borussia Dortmund, something which Pep Guardiola and his coaching staff are looking to avoid this time around.

So while they've been managing his minutes as much as possible, Haaland has taken it upon himself to dig into his reported £375,000-per-week wages and invest in the chamber, according to the Mirror.

He's only able to use it for up to five minutes at any one time as any longer than that and it could pose health risks. It is a popular piece of kit with many top players, including Manchester United legend Cristiano Ronaldo.

Haaland is obsessed with gaining any edge possible on his competitors, having had ice baths for two years and wearing special glasses in the evening which filter out blue light and help to get him a good night's sleep.

"I see this as key to improving performance by even just a few percentages," he has said. "For me, it’s about the small things in the fight to get better day by day.

"Every day provides a new opportunity to get even better. Basically, it’s a matter of mentality. I hope I manage to stay focused and I hope we have not seen the best edition of Erling Haaland yet."
