Christian Eriksen says Manchester United had ‘a very bad day at the office’ after they were thumped 6-3 rivals City.

Erik ten Hag’s side were brushed aside in embarrassing fashion by their local rivals after Phil Foden and Erling Haaland both netted hat-tricks for the hosts.

Brazilian winger Antony and Anthony Martial restored some credibility for United but it wasn’t enough – and Eriksen suggests that the club has ‘a lot to change’ before they see real progress.

The Red Devils found themselves 4-0 down at half-time after a rampant City performance

Speaking to Sky Sports after the game, Eriksen said: ‘It came very heavy. Everyone feels it was a very bad day at the office. We started on the wrong foot. They had chances straight from kick-off. We can only blame ourselves.

‘We missed a bit of courage to play out from the back and we let them be at their strength. The main focus from this game will be on ourselves.

‘There are a lot of things we need to change and a lot of things we need to do better. Today was far from acceptable from what we should be doing.’

Man City were in cruise control at half-time with a well-deserved 4-0 lead thanks to goals from Erling Haaland and Phil Foden, both of whom went on to score hattricks.

Haaland is now a history-maker after scoring his third successive hat-trick at home in the Premier League, continuing his unrivalled and blistering start to his debut campaign at City.

Victory for Guardiola’s side saw City reduce the gap between themselves and Arsenal at the top of the Premier League table to just one point, while United remain sixth in the standings, nine points off top spot.
