Erik ten Hag willing to sell Manchester United academy star to complete overhaul

Manchester United star Scott McTominay could be sold this summer if the right offer comes along for the Scotland international.

The 26-year-old had been the youngest of United’s established first-team midfielders before the arrival of Mason Mount earlier this month.

Erik ten Hag therefore saw greater value in keeping McTominay instead of the likes of Donny van de Beek and Fred.

However, with little interest in the Dutchman and Fred entering the last year of his contract, McTominay has greater selling power.

The midfielder emerged from United’s academy and he’s attracted interest from West Ham following the Hammers’ decision to let Declan Rice join Arsenal.

While Ten Hag is a fan of McTominay, the MEN say he will let the midfielder leave for the right price as it could speed up his overhaul of the club’s midfield.

With Mount arriving on a £55m deal, McTominay could be replaced by a more defensive-minded midfielder.

Casemiro turns 32 next February, and Ten Hag wants to lower the age profile of his midfield.

Mount has already helped in that regard but a younger midfielder – such as Romeo Lavia – could be a perfect long-term replacement.
