Erik ten Hag will earn a whopping £3million bonus if he can lead Manchester United back into the Premier League’s top four and guarantee Champions League football for the club again.
The Dutchman’s £9million-a-year salary pails into comparison to cross-town rival Pep Guardiola, with United’s new boss earning half the amount the Manchester City manager is paid.
However, the 52-year-old’s contract is packed with incentives, including the huge bonus he’d receive if Manchester United qualify for the Champions League.

The Red Devils face the possibility of a £90million debt if they miss out on the top four again
According to The Sun, United are facing debts of around £90 million if they miss out on Champions League football once again.
Some of which would come from their £75million-a-season shirt sponsorship with adidas, where the club would have to forfeit £25million if they failed to secure Champions League football for a second season in a row.
There would also be losses in television revenue, prize money and gate receipts that would account for further millions.

Ten Hag and his coaching staff have had to plan without the lure of Champions League football
The looming threat of Cristiano Ronaldo’s possible departure from Old Trafford has also had a negative threat on United’s current finances and could leave the club facing another six-figure loss.
A ‘significant volume’ of fans who have bought the Red Devils’ new home shirt have wanted to have the Portuguese legend’s name on the back.
The 37-year-old’s image was a huge part of the promotional campaign for new kits, but it came well before Ronaldo decided he wanted to leave the club.
However, the club are now facing calls from supporters wanting refunds or replacement shirts, if the United number seven does leave the club.
A departure for Cristiano Ronaldo could see Man Utd forced to exchange shirts already sold
A United insider said: ‘People have been turning up at the megastore asking where they stand on a potential exchange if Ronaldo does go?
‘United did right by supporters last year when he took over the No7 shirt, but with the greatest respect to Edinson Cavani, we’re talking completely different levels here.’
Fans who had bought Edinson Cavani shirts last season from United Direct or the megastore were granted an exchange, however the volume of replacements could be vaster this time around.
