Erik ten Hag claims Mason Mount will help Man United be 'more dynamic'
Erik ten Hag insists Mason Mount will help Man United be ‘more dynamic’ in midfield as the England star impresses in first start for his new side
- Mount played 45 minutes as United beat Leeds in pre-season on Wednesday
- He is the headline signing for the club so far after completing a £60 move
- Ten Hag hailed the midfielder as ‘a great team player’ that ‘knows how to win’
Erik ten Hag has insisted Mason Mount will help Manchester United be ‘more dynamic’ in midfield.
Mount made the move to United last week after several years at Chelsea in a £60million deal.
He made his first appearance in a United shirt on Wednesday, playing 45 minutes against Leeds in Norway in the Red Devils’ first pre-season friendly, and put in a solid performance in front of several thousand eager United fans.
Mount is expected to play a key role in United’s side this season as they hunt for more silverware under Erik ten Hag after winning the Carabao Cup last season and losing in the FA Cup final.
Before the game against Leeds, Ten Hag said via Viaplay that he is confident Mount will contribute the success of the club and that he’s keen to play as attacking as he can in a United shirt.

Ten Hag (pictured) said that Mount is keen to play an offensive midfield role in his side this term
‘I’m sure he will contribute to the success of United because he is a quality player,’ the Dutchman began. ‘His vision is to play the offensive [role]. But also he wants to be multi-functional, he wants to be complete.
‘When you’re playing in midfield, you have to attack, but you also you have to defend. I’m sure he will bring dynamism into our game and that was one of our analysis conclusions we made after last season. We need [to be] more dynamic in the midfield department.
‘You always hope, as a manager, that you have the players in the first moment because then, across the pre-season, you can work on the routines and our way of play.’
He also praised those involved in the deal after the club ‘worked so hard’ to get the signing over the line
United fought to get the deal for Mount over the line, with new Chelsea manager Mauricio Pochettino keen to work with the England midfielder.
Liverpool were also interested in his services, but United got the deal over the line and ten Hag was full of praise for those that helped the deal happen.
‘We worked so hard to get this done,’ he said. ‘I think so many clubs were looking out for Mason, to sign him, and we succeeded. We are happy with that, he brings something in the midfield department.
‘He’s a great team player as well and he knows how to win.’
