Arsenal and Liverpool get £85m transfer boost with Mbappe’s future in spotlight

Football Digest: Reaction to Granit Xhaka's departure from Arsenal

Arsenal and Liverpool could get a surprise £85million deal for Federico Valverde or Aurelien Tchouameni with Real Madrid hoping to raise funds to buy Kylian Mbappe. Reports in the Spanish media claim that Los Blancos are willing to sell either of the midfielders this summer.

Madrid are desperate to finally complete a long-pursued move for France star Mbappe. They realise that they might finally get their chance to pounce over the coming months, with the attacker seemingly likely to leave Paris Saint-Germain.

Just one year remains on Mbappe’s PSG contract and he is widely reported to be keen to leave at the end of his deal. However, the Parisians do not want to lose their best player for free and want to recoup at least some of the £165m they paid to Monaco in 2017.

It has been claimed that Madrid are lining up a huge offer for Mbappe. However, they may need to sell one of their biggest stars, in what could be a major boost to Arsenal and Liverpool.

According to Spanish journalist Juan Ignacio G-Ochoa, the La Liga giants will make Valverde and Tchouameni available at around £68-85m. Arsenal and Liverpool have both been linked with the duo.

Speaking about Real’s business to Radio Marca, the reporter said: “They will make a very big investment for Kylian. They could sell  Valverde or Tchouameni and enter €80-€100 million if an offer arrives.”

Arsenal and Liverpool have both been linked with Valverde and Tchouameni as part of their midfield revamps. The Reds were trumped to the signing of the latter last summer, with Madrid picked as the Frenchman’s chosen destination.

While a £68-85m outlay on either would take up a huge portion of both clubs’ remaining budgets, signing either player would complete their respective midfield rejuvenations.

Meanwhile, Mbappe has made another hint at a move after claiming that a career should be ‘selfish’ and insists that he’s ‘never satisfied’. Speaking to L’Equipe, the 24-year-old said: “I push the limits for myself first. People don’t really like it when people say that, but a career is selfish, it’s yours, it’s what you leave behind.

“Basically, I’m always dissatisfied, so I’m never impressed with what I do. It’s already the first key to understanding myself because everything I do, I tell myself that I can do it again and better.”
