Eric Choupo-Moting misses out on Cameroon call-up due to email blunder
Bayern Munich ace Eric Maxim Choupo-Moting will not be involved for Cameroon in the current international break due to an email error.
Choupo-Moting has been a regular with the African nation for a decade, having also spent time with Stoke and PSG.
Though he did not receive a call-up for Cameroon’s Africa Cup of Nations qualifiers against Cape Verde and Rwanda this month.
Instead, it has emerged that a Cameroonian FA official sent the email invite to themselves instead of to Choupo-Moting.
German outlet Bild report that the invite was meant to be sent to Bayern Munich, though the club have since confirmed that they didn't receive any word from the national team.
It leaves Choupo-Moting twiddling his thumbs for the next fortnight with the 32-year-old’s father speaking in support of his son.
“I was contacted by the association to find out what was going on. I contacted FC Bayern and they confirmed that they had not received the invitation,” he told Naja TV.
“It looks like she sent it to the wrong email address instead. For me, that's a lack of professionalism.
“When sending invitations, be sure to send them to the correct address. If that doesn't happen, I don't understand why it's the club's or Maxim's fault.”
Cameroon will be without the striker for their final two Group F games in the qualifying campaign.
Cameroon automatically qualify for the tournament as hosts, while the sit top of their group having won three of their four games.
