England U20s 1-0 Tunisia U20s: Three Lions win their opening match at the Under 20 World Cup as Tottenham striker Dane Scarlett scores the game’s only goal in Argentina
- England Under 20s got their World Cup campaign underway with a victory
- The Three Lions beat Tunisia by a single goal in Argentina on Monday evening
- Tottenham attacker Dane Scarlett sealed three points for Ian Foster’s side
Dane Scarlett’s first-half header gave England Under 20s the perfect start to their World Cup campaign in Argentina as they look to follow in the footsteps of the victorious 2017 side.
Tottenham striker Scarlett, 19, turned in captain Harvey Vale’s cross midway through the first half to see off Tunisia and give Ian Foster’s side all three points at the Estadio Unico Diego Armando Maradona in La Plata.
The Young Lions are aiming to replicate the success of six years ago when Paul Simpson’s team claimed global glory in South Korea.
His squad that included eight players who have gone on to represent the England senior team.
Some of those included AC Milan’s Fikayo Tomori and Dominic Calvert-Lewin, who scored the winning goal in the final against Venezuela.

Young Lions manager Ian Foster will now see his side take on both Uruguay and Iraq
This year’s crop is highlighted by the likes of Middlesbrough midfielder Aaron Ramsey, Manchester City striker Liam Delap and Alex Scott.
Bristol City 19-year-old Scott has been dubbed the ‘Guernsey Grealish’ and is tipped for a Premier League move this summer.
Next up for England is Uruguay on Thursday evening. Foster’s side then round off their Group E campaign against Iraq on Sunday.
The top two teams get safe passage into the last 16, where they are joined by the four best third-placed sides.
Ukraine are the reigning champions after winning the 2019 edition in neighbouring Poland.
