England fans slam new kit for ‘heavy metal font’ and random lower case letters

Enraged England fans have voiced their discontent on Twitter after the Three Lions officially released their home and away shirts for the World Cup.

Already blasted by vociferous Three Lions supporters following an online leak last week, Gareth Southgate's side will depart for Qatar donning the "worst home kit we've ever had," though fans have praised the classy retro away number.

Unveiled with a slick social media video, featuring the likes of Harry Kane, Jack Grealish and Jude Bellingham, supporters will be charged an outrageous £114.95 to bag the England Home Match edition – though the eye-watering price tag is numbed somewhat with free shipping.

And while the blue-shouldered-home strip came as little surprise, fans were left baffled by the font choice for both shirts, which involves random lower case letters and is inspired by "heavy metal."

A statement on the home shirt from England Football reads: "The angular typeface applied to the name and number – and the Three Lions graphic on the inside back of the shirt – is inspired by industrial fonts used by heavy metal rock bands throughout England."

This is also confirmed with the font used on the away jersey: "Just like the home kit, the typeface used on the name and number takes inspiration from angular, industrial fonts used by English heavy metal rock bands."

Though supporters aren't too convinced about the "heavy metal" lettering. "Because, of course, people who work at the FA are generally considered to be experts on the English heavy metal scene," harked one fan.

"I hope [we] don't win the World Cup, simply because of these kits," jibbed a second. "Jesus Christ that's an ugly name set, why is the I lowercase," quizzed a third.

"Heavy metal. Something which our national captain has never lifted in his life," said a fourth, taking aim at Harry Kane's trophy-less career at Tottenham.

While a fifth slammed: "Ironic, because the team doesn't play 'heavy metal football' though. It's more like elevator music, with the odd 'chilled Ibiza vibe just to jazz it up' – any more than that, and we go back into our shell."
