England fans have given their mixed reaction on Twitter after Gareth Southgate named four right-backs in his squad for Euro 2020.

The 26-man England squad for this summer's European Championships was unveiled on Monday.

But with competition fiercer than ever in some positions, plenty of eyebrows were raised at the call to include four right-sided defenders.

In a squad including 10 defenders, Reece James, Kieran Trippier, Kyle Walker and Trent Alexander-Arnold were all given the nod.

The first three were all expected to be included, while Liverpool's Alexander-Arnold was something of a surprise inclusion, having been left out of Southgate's most recent squad despite being fit.

So with just five central-midfielders included, plenty of Three Lions supporters were left confused and frustrated on Twitter that all four right-backs in the initial squad of 33 were all included.

One wrote: "4 right backs and only 5 midfielders tells you everything you need to know about negative Southgate.

"5 Midfielders and 4 RB?" asked a second. "No JWP in a tournament when 75% of Englands goals in last one were from set pieces."

"Not taking Ward-Prowse, instead taking four right backs could backfire," a third chimed in.

Another added: "How many other countries take 4 right backs! What a joke!"

"4 f****** right backs!" fumed a fifth.

However, one pointed about that Manchester City's Walker has and can play at centre-back, while many have called for Alexander-Arnold to play in a more advanced role for years.

"4 possible right backs however Kyle Walker can play cb and also Trent could possibly play in midfield," one fan wrote.

James Ward-Prowse, Ollie Watkins, Jesse Lingard, Aaron Ramsdale, Ben White, Ben Godfrey and Mason Greenwood all missed out from the provisional squad.
