England fans baffled after Abrahams ridiculous yellow card vs San Marino

England fans have been left confused after Tammy Abraham was handed a yellow card in ‘ridiculous’ circumstances during their emphatic 10-0 win over San Marino on Monday.

Harry Maguire opened the scoring after just seven minutes, before an own goal, four from Harry Kane, and a goal each from Emile Smith-Rowe, Tyrone Mings, Tammy Abraham and Bukayo Saka completed the rout.

The result means England have booked their place in Qatar next winter after winning Group I with 26 points – six better than second-placed Poland – who will have to go through the difficult play-off route.

But the game wasn’t without a strange VAR incident, which saw England striker Abraham booked in peculiar circumstances in the 73rd minute.

England were on the attack when a brilliant strike by Jude Bellingham from outside the box left San Marino goalkeeper Elia Benedettini with no chance.

However, referee Rade Obrenovic later chalked the goal off after Abraham was adjudged to have fouled a San Marino defender in the build-up to the goal by VAR.

Abraham barely connected with the San Marino defender as he attempted to flick the ball goalward, and the overwhelming majority felt it was not enough to be given as a foul.

Fans later took to social media to share their opinion on the matter.

One said wrote on Twitter: “Eh? Hows that disallowed? And Abraham booked! Ridiculous VAR that.”

Another said: “Gutted for him not even a foul, how Abraham got booked is beyond me.”

A third wrote: “The two worst VAR decisions tonight that I think I’ve ever seen. Our first penalty was a joke and how on earth did Abraham get booked for that.”

A fourth added: “I cannot believe he’s just booked Abraham,” accompanied by several laughing emojis.

Aside from the incident, the Roma striker made a brilliant impact from the bench by providing a wonderful flick for Smith-Rowe’s goal, before later getting on the scoresheet himself with a brilliantly taken solo goal.
