Emma Raducanu backs England to beat Denmark and reach Euro 2020 final
Tennis sensation Emma Raducanu has backed England’s Three Lions to make up for her night of hurt by triumphing in tonight’s Euro semi-final, declaring: ‘It’s coming home, isn’t it?’
The British teenager wore an England football shirt as she assured fans she was ‘feeling better’ after her thrilling Wimbledon run ended in agonising circumstances on Monday night.
Looking rested and happy, Raducanu, 18, tipped Gareth Southgate’s team to beat Denmark 2-1 at Wembley and go on to win the tournament on Sunday.
‘I think I’ll be at home for sure, just watching the game,’ she told BBC1’s Wimbledon coverage yesterday.
‘It’s been a busy few weeks so I’ll just kick back and definitely enjoy it — yeah, it’s coming home, isn’t it?’
Earlier she used social media to admit ‘I think the whole experience caught up with me’ for withdrawing during her fourth-round tie against Australia’s Ajla Tomljanovic with what appeared to be breathing problems.
Andy Murray leapt to her defence after TV presenter Piers Morgan said Raducanu ‘couldn’t handle the pressure’ when she quit at 6-4, 3-0 down.
The ex-Wimbledon champion, whose father-in-law Nigel Sears coaches the teen, described the barbs as ‘very harsh’.
BBC host Gary Lineker also backed Raducanu tweeting ‘happens to the best of us’ with Morgan storming off Good Morning Britain’s set in March after a row about Meghan Markle.
And England footballer Marcus Rashford told her she should be ‘very proud’ — revealing he, too, struggled during a national team match as a teenager.
