Eduardo Camavinga has reportedly been offered a new Real Madrid contract that comes with an eye-watering £874million release clause. Arsenal, Manchester United, Chelsea and Liverpool have all been linked with a move for the Frenchman in the past but will find it very difficult to sign him going forwards given his huge release clause.

Camavinga is widely considered to be one of the hottest young talents in world football and is currently key to Real Madrid’s long-term plan. The 20-year-old has become a regular starter at the base of Los Blancos midfield as Carlo Ancelotti starts to build his team around him.

Camavinga still has over four years left on his current deal, which he signed after joining from Rennes in 2021, but Madrid plan to offer him a new contract to reward his attitude and performances according to the Athletic. Talks are still at an early stage but the intention is to offer an extension of at least two years while also increasing his salary.

The La Liga giants also hope to add in a £874m (€1billion) release clause to prevent any chance of him leaving in the near future. The same clause is already written into the contracts of Eder Militao, Vinicius Junior and Rodrygo as Real build a team for the future.

Spanish rules mean that each player must have a release clause within their contract. This is due to player welfare rules and is intended so that clubs cannot force players to stay when they do not want to.

The huge release clause will deter any other teams from trying to sign Camavinga given he has been the subject of intense interest from across Europe before. United, Liverpool and Chelsea were each credited with an interest in the player while he was at Rennes while Arsenal were linked with an audacious loan move during the January transfer window as they considered alternatives to Moises Caicedo.

Camavinga does not seem to be in any hurry to leave the Bernabeu either – especially after solidifying his first-team place, describing Los Blancos as the best team in the world.

“It’s another world, with regard to the facilities and the passion,” he told Ouest France. “You feel straight away that you have joined the best club in the world.”

It remains to be seen whether or not Camavinga will agree to his new deal at Real but all the signs suggest that he will be at the club for a long time.
