Eddie Howe’s transfer record laid bare ahead of Newcastle announcement
Eddie Howe’s previous spending on transfers has been laid bare and scrutinised ahead of his appointment as Newcastle United manager.
Howe, 43, is set to take charge of Newcastle imminently, taking over from Steve Bruce who was sacked last month following the club’s £300million Saudi-led takeover.
The former Bournemouth boss held talks with the club this week where he impressed with his attention to detail when discussing plans and the make-up of his backroom staff.
Howe’s appointment is now being finalised with reports claiming that only paper-work is left to be signed as the Englishman agrees a deal with the club until 2024.
He last managed a team in 2020, having resigned after suffering relegation with Bournemouth.
Meanwhile, the Magpies are now officially the richest club in the Premier League due to the Saudi Public Investment Fund’s takeover and intend to replicate the achievements of Manchester City since their own takeover in 2008.
Aside from implementing their long-term plan of becoming Premier League contenders, Newcastle currently sit 19th in the league having not won a game and therefore need Howe to avoid relegation first.
Howe, who miraculously achieved three promotions in seven-years with Bournemouth, will have to invest wisely in January in order to avoid the drop.

But fans and journalists on social media are torn as to whether he is the right man for the difficult task at hand.
Bournemouth were relegated at the end of the 2019/20 season due to what many believe was poor recruitment on Howe’s part.
They spent £25million on Jefferson Lerma, £10.7million on Diego Rico and £19million on Liverpool prospect Dominic Solanke, while clubs like Wolves and Sheffield United invested wisely and ensured mid-table finishes.
But others have been quick to point out that Howe’s recruitment was largely positive during his time with the Cherries, having signed key players Callum Wilson (£3million), Aaron Ramsdale (£800k), Ryan Fraser (432K) and Josh King (free).
After much discourse surrounding whether Howe will bring in the right personnel, fan-run NUFCblog came to the defence of the new boss.
They tweeted: “Yes, he may have made big mistakes with Jordan Ibe (£16m) and Solanke but it's important to look at some of the gems he unearthed, too.
“Worth noting he also brought in David Brooks (£10m from Sheff U) & Arnaud Danjuma; now a star player at Villarreal.”
Others agreed with the sentiment, saying: “This is actually pretty impressive tbh.”
Another added: “I’m very hopeful he will do well. Let’s hope we stay up now.”
