Eddie Howe 'is the leading contender to take over at Celtic'

Eddie Howe ‘is the leading contender to take over at Celtic’ and ex-Bournemouth boss has ‘started his own due diligence into behind-the scenes structure’ of Scottish giants

  • Eddie Howe has been out of management since leaving Bournemouth last year
  • English manager is one of the names in the frame to take over at Celtic
  • He is understood to be extremely interested in Neil Lennon’s old position
  • Howe has started his own due diligence of behind the scenes structure of club

Eddie Howe is leading contender to become the next Celtic manager and has even started his own due diligence on the behind-the-scenes structure of the club.

The former Bournemouth boss is one of the names in the frame to take over with Neil Lennon having departed the club after Rangers’ title triumph.

According to the Sun, Howe has been sounding out trusted colleagues with links to the Hoops.

Eddie Howe is interested in the Celtic job and is finding out as much as he can about the club

The Hoops are conducting a search for their next boss following Neil Lennon’s exit

Howe wants to understand everything he can about Celtic and the way the club operates to give him the best chance of successfully landing the role.

It is understood that the Scottish giants have sounded out whether he’d be interested if an offer was put on the table and he’s replied positively.

The 43-year-old wants assurances that he would be given transfer funds and be able to make the changes he needs to supersede Steven Gerrard’s Rangers.

Thierry Henry and Roy Keane are also both understood to want the job but Howe’s pedigree eclipses both in management.

The Englishman was widely praised for the remarkable work he did at his old club Bournemouth having steered the team through the divisions to the Premier League despite limited cash flow.

He mutually agreed to leave last summer after failing to avoid relegation back down to the Championship.

Since then, he has been refreshing mentally and biding his time, waiting for the right opportunity to return.

He has been connected to the role at Newcastle with Steve Bruce under huge pressure amid the Magpies’ relegation battle.

But Bruce has been backed by Mike Ashley to turn things around and Howe it seems is intent on securing the hotseat north of the border.

Roy Keane has also been linked with the role and would be willing to leave his punditry role
