Drone footage shows Anfield revamp as roof is sorted at 61,000-seater stadium

Liverpool have reached another significant milestone in their development of Anfield following the erection of 300-tonne roof truss on the Anfield Road Stand.

Work began on the stand, which is opposite The Kop, last September, and is expected to be finished in time for the start of the 2023-24 season. Once completed, it will provide the Reds with an extra 7,000 seats – taking the overall capacity to 61,000.

It will make Anfield the third largest ground in the Premier League, behind only Old Trafford and the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium. New drone footage has shown the incredible work required to renovate the 138-year-old arena.

Time-lapse footage posted on Liverpool's Twitter account revealed how 30 engineers spent 12 hours securing the primary structure to the new roof.

The engineers were assisted by two 600-tonne crawler cranes as they screwed the truss and haunches into place using some 25,000 bolts. The new roof will stand at 39m high – 11m higher than the current structure.

Of the additional 7,000 seats provided by the new stand, 5,200 will be set aside for general admission, with the remaining 1,800 used for lounge or hospitality purposes.

Speaking about the erection of the truss, Paul Cuttill – VP of Stadium Operations at Liverpool – said: "We are delighted to see the roof truss lifted into place. This is one of the most challenging and complicated parts of the build. There has been a lot of planning involved and it took a few goes to get started due to the complexity of the lift.
