Dortmund ‘replace’ Haaland with 34-year-old who couldn’t score in Premier League

Borussia Dortmund's newest addition had an absolute nightmare time in the Premier League – failing to score at all during his time on these shores.

Anthony Modeste has moved to the Signal Iduna Park this summer in a £4.2million from FC Koln with the club desperate to bolster their strike force. Erling Haaland was the big departure this year after his multi-million move to Manchester City.

After scoring 86 times in 89 games for Dortmund, it is near-impossible to replace that kind of firepower but the Bundesliga outfit have not wasted time getting in some forwards. Karim Adeyemi has joined from RB Salzburg, though is seen more as a wide man rather than a classic No. 9.

Sebastian Haller has arrived from Ajax but the Ivory Coast international is set to undergo chemotherapy for a testicular tumour. While it was since transpired that the surgery was a success, the 28-year-old is set to miss a portion of the season as he recovers.

And it has led to Dortmund finding a stop-gap striker in the form of Modeste, who some sharp Premier League fans will remember for his time at Blackburn. In 2012, the Frenchman moved to Ewood Park on loan from Bordeaux with Rovers fighting relegation.

However, his loan in Lancashire ended miserably after failing to score a single goal as Blackburn went on to get relegated. Modeste was even sent off against West Brom in a crucial six-pointer.

Dortmund will be hoping for a bit more than that from the 34-year-old – who actually had an incredible campaign last year. In 32 Bundesliga appearances, Modeste scored 20 times – making his arrival at the Signal Iduna Park at just £4.2m a potential bargain.
