Diogo Jota’s Liverpool training performances will excite Reds boss Jurgen Klopp
Liverpool received a huge injury boost this week as Diogo Jota returned to first-team training, and Jurgen Klopp will be delighted at having another option up top.
The Premier League champions, who are now looking at trying to get into the top four rather than retain their title, have been poor going forward recently.
Roberto Firmino in particular has been criticised for his performances, having found the net just once in the league this year.
The return of Jota, however, will give Klopp the chance to rest Firmino and rotate things up top.
Before his injury, the £41million man had scored nine goals in his first 17 games across all competitions having made an immediate impact.
And according to team-mate Andy Robertson, Jota is looking to make up for lost time when the time comes for him to return to the starting XI.
“In a really tough week for a few reasons, of course, seeing Diogo back on the pitch brought a smile to everyone’s face,” Robbo said.
“He was flying up until his injury, he really made an impact coming into the team, a new signing hitting the ground running with goals, assists and the way he was going about his business.
“So, great to have him back. He has obviously been out for a long period of time, he’s looking really good in training, looking sharp.
"So, I’m sure he’s looking to make up for lost time.
“It’s good to have that option, great to have him back and it’ll be good to have him back involved in the squad.
"He has certainly brought an extra quality to training, long may that continue and hopefully he can score some of the goals he scored at the start of the season because, like I said, he was making a huge impact on this club.”
Due to his ability to play anywhere across the front three, Jota can provide an alternative to either Mohamed Salah or Sadio Mane too.
But considering Firmino's lack of firepower in front of goal, the Brazilian will likely be looking over his shoulder when Jota does end up coming back into the fold.
