Dimitri Payet in tears as Marseille release him – West Ham fans beg ‘come home’
West Ham fans have urged Dimitri Payet to ‘come home’ after he was left in tears announcing his exit from Marseille.
The former Hammers ace played 60 times for the club in an exceptional 18 months spell that saw the Frenchman recognised as one of the Premier League’s most gifted players and a master at set pieces.
Payet, 36, joined West Ham from Marseille in 2015 before returning in the January of the 2016/17 season in ruthless fashion.
Then Hammers boss Slaven Bilic was forced to admit during a press conference that Payet wanted to return back to the South of France and refused to play, seeing him re-join for £25million.

After 326 games across two different spells for Marseille, Payet was left in tears as he revealed to the press that he would be leaving the Stade Velodrome as a free agent.
Despite Payet’s deal expiring in 2024, club officials decided to terminate his deal a year earlier to his disappointment.

Payet said: "I want to leave through the front door and, even at 36, I still have goals that keep me awake. I tell myself that I can’t stop until I win something with the club."
And upon hearing the news, the West Ham faithful have urged the club and Payet to make a reunion in remarkable fashion ahead of the new season.
One fan tweeted: “Payet a free agent let's bring him home for one more final goodbye”
A second said: “Nostalgia is a wonderful thing… I am all for Payet being brought back.”
With a third question: “A possible return?” “Payet back to West Ham as a free agent? Who says no? Not me,” a fourth said.
West Ham are yet to welcome any new arrivals to East London so far this summer but David Moyes will likely be in control of a lucrative purse soon after Declan Rice completed his £105m move to Arsenal.
