Diallo shows frustration in first Man Utd session as Van de Beek grabs attention

Manchester United welcomed new signing Amad Diallo into training for the first time this week.

Diallo, who has completed his £37million transfer from Atalanta, was thrown straight in to Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s first-team squad ahead of Sunday’s top of the table clash with Liverpool.

The teenage winger has arrived with high hopes and his first session was documented on United’s official YouTube channel.

But whilst all eyes were on Diallo, it was out-of-favour midfielder Donny van de Beek who grabbed attention with a fine goal.

Diallo was left visibly frustrated as he made a smart attacking run but Fred and Jesse Lingard’s interchange lost possession before they could play it through to their new team-mate.

After briefly gesturing to show his frustration, Diallo tracked back but the ball found its way to Van de Beek who adjusted his body and curled an excellent effort first-time into the bottom corner from the edge of the box.

He was applauded by team-mates as he reminded Ole Gunnar Solskjaer what he can bring having been left out of the side.

"Came for Amad but VDB stole the light.. What a bend," one fan commented, with another adding: "Donny bending it like Becks".

Diallo, meanwhile, left the pitch alongside new team-mate Eric Bailly as they had a chat once an encouraging first session was over.

The youngster has turned to his fellow Ivorian for help to settle in after his move and discussed their relationship in his first interview this week.

"Eric will be a definite reference point for me,” Diallo said.

“I’ve actually already been in touch with him over the last few months and we’ve been chatting.

“I’ll be asking him for advice and will be listening to all he says, and also the other players who speak French and Italian like [Paul] Pogba for example, he will be another good reference point for me.”

Solskjaer, meanwhile, has refused to rule out Diallo being involved against Liverpool this weekend.

"Let him have some time," Solskjaer told Norwegian outlet Dagbladet. "But whether it is against Liverpool in the league, in the FA Cup, this weekend or in a few weeks it is questionable.

"We have a very fresh squad. There are only one or two that are questionable for the weekend

"I do not rule out that he is in the squad for the Liverpool match. Things can happen.

"You see how fast things happen over here in England. Suddenly, a team has six players out with coronavirus .

"So you do not know. I do not want to put any time on it, but he is at least in the group, trains with us and can be chosen in the squad."
