Des Kelly slammed for ‘absolutely horrendous’ Ilkay Gundogan autograph request

BT Sport presenter Des Kelly has taken some slack on social media for getting his own “memento” from Ilkay Gundogan after Manchester City’s Champions League win. City were made to work in the final against Inter Milan, but Rodri’s goal ended up being the difference for Pep Guardiola’s side.

Jubilant celebrations followed with Gundogan lifting the trophy to give City a historic treble. It’s still unclear whether the City captain will sign a new contract at the Etihad with his current deal expiring this summer.

His future wasn’t up for discussion in the immediate aftermath of City’s triumph in Istanbul though. Kelly managed to grab a word with Gundogan as the City players did their lap of honour around the edge of the pitch.

But it was Kelly’s final question, where he asked Gundogan to sign his media armband, that didn’t go down well on Twitter. “Could you sign this armband?” Kelly asked with a smile.

“Because I’m getting an enormous amount of stick on Twitter for wearing it. I have to wear that to get on the pitch but everyone thinks I’m the new John Terry or something.”

Gundogan saw the funny side of it and didn’t hesitate to fulfil Kelly’s request. Kelly added: “So this is a memento that I’ll keep forever.”

And the BT Sport presenter toon on even more criticism for using his live interview with the midfielder to get an autograph.
