Dembele set to STAY at Barcelona as potential move to PSG collapses

Ousmane Dembele set to STAY at Barcelona as potential move to Paris Saint-Germain collapses after the French side failed to find a solution to make the deal comply with financial fair play rules

  • Ousmane Dembele had agreed terms with Paris Saint-Germain over a loan move
  • But PSG do not have the finances required to cover any potential transfer
  • Chelsea and Manchester United were also linked with late moves for the winger
  • Dembele though is now likely to spend the rest of the season at the Nou Camp
  • Frenchman is now set to leave Barca when his contract expires in the summer

Ousmane Dembele looks to be staying at Barcelona bar a dramatic twist.

Financial Fair Play restrictions have meant Paris Saint-Germain have failed to find a solution to bringing in the France international.

As with other clubs that showed interest, a deal was only deemed feasible if they could offer players in exchange.

Ousmane Dembele’s potential move to Paris Saint-Germain from Barcelona has collapsed

Mauricio Pochettino’s side have been unable to make a deal that works with financial fair play

Barcelona had considered lowering their asking price of £16.5m but PSG would still have needed to move players out before bringing a player in of Dembele’s valuation and salary.

Even if Barcelona allowed him to leave for free, PSG are stuck unless players leave.

The France international winger was anticipating offers from the Premier League and his representatives held tentative discussions with Manchester United and Chelsea but with no bids forthcoming, the door was left ajar for PSG, while Tottenham also maintained slight interest.

Dembele is now expected to see out the season with Barca before his contract expires

PSG has considered the possibility of including Juan Bernat as part of a player swap having initially started talks over an exchange with forward Mauro Icardi.

Sportsmail understands that talks started over Dembele with PSG offering a straight swap deal for Icardi on Sunday, but Barcelona preferred an outright sale.

Dembele had agreed personal terms on a switch to Paris but negotiations a deal between Barca and PSG failed to materialise.

Barcelona are now likely to lose a player they purchased for £130million from Borussia Dortmund in the summer of 2017 on a free transfer when his contract expires at the end of the season.
