Former Italy international Alessandro Del Piero would prefer his country to come up against England over Denmark in the final of Euro 2020 on Sunday.

The Italians sealed their spot in the showpiece match via a penalty shoot-out triumph against Spain on Tuesday night, after the match finished 1-1 following extra-time.

Roberto Mancini’s team have stood out from start to finish in this tournament but ahead of the second semi-final this evening between England and Denmark, ex-Juventus star Del Piero says he would rather face Gareth Southgate’s side.

Italy progressed to the Euro 2020 final after beating Spain in a penalty shoot-out on Tuesday

When asked who was the better match-up for Italy out of England or Denmark, Del Piero told ESPN: ‘Well in many ways England.

‘Because England will play at home so in that scenario you will be the underdog. But to play away from home gives you that little bit of spice and the strength can bind you together.

‘But also I believe that England have better single players, so it’s dangerous.’

Del Piero, now 46, won the 2006 World Cup when the Italians beat hosts Germany in the semi-finals, with the forward coming off the bench to score in extra-time.

The Juve legend also scored a penalty in the final shoot-out win over France in Berlin.

Italy last reached the final of the European Championships in 2012, but they were thrashed by Spain in Ukraine.

England, meanwhile, have never reached the final of the competition while Denmark were surprise winners in 1992.
