Daniel Levy ‘confident’ of Mauricio Pochettino return over unfinished business

Tottenham chief Daniel Levy is said to be feeling confident over his chances of bringing Mauricio Pochettino back to north London this summer despite the stance of PSG.

The former Southampton boss was sacked by the Premier League side just months after their Champions League final defeat against Liverpool after slipping to 14th in the table.

Following some time out of a job, the Argentine replaced Thomas Tuchel at PSG and led them to a second-place finish in Ligue 1 as well as Coupe de France glory over Monaco.

While the 49-year-old is said to be keen on returning to the club where he spent five years of his career, his current side want him to see out the final year of his contract.

The Sun report that Levy is confident he can pull off the sensational return with Pochettino willing to come back to the club following extended talks this week.

It is believed that his return would help Spurs keep hold of Harry Kane beyond the summer transfer window, with links to Manchester United and Manchester City ongoing.

They add that Pochettino was devastated by his sacking in 2019, despite admitting that he might well have quit had he won the Champions League final against Liverpool.

On Thursday, Pochettino was quoted on PSG's website regarding his plans for the future.

He said: "With this way of working, and with the desire to be able to develop other kinds of ideas on the pitch, it will be possible to do great things in the future.

"I think that in football you are never satisfied because perfection doesn't exist.

"But we are always looking for that satisfaction that we can't find, because I always believe that football challenges you every day and that from season to season you have to be better and better."

Adding of the potential return of supporters: "This is something that hopefully will be solved soon and we will be able to have this strength again and, with our fans, create this bond that makes the team better and will help us to achieve the goals that we have set."
