Former Chelsea winger Juan Cuadrado has ruled out a move to Saudi Arabia as Cristiano Ronaldo ‘doesn’t want him’.

The pair spent three seasons as teammates at Juventus and won two Serie A titles together, leading to speculation that their friendship could persuade Cuadrado to follow a growing number of high-profile players in swapping Europe for Saudi Arabia.

Despite winning nine major trophies in Turin and playing over 300 games, the 35-year-old is currently a free agent after failing to agree a new contract.

He has not retired from the game, and even refused to rule out the possibility of appearing at the 2026 World Cup, but the Colombia international did confirm a move to the Middle East is not on the cards.

When asked about joining the Saudi Pro League, Cuadrado told AS: ‘At this moment, I still have the passion and I like to compete. Besides, Ronaldo is down there and he doesn’t want me!’

‘I am very relaxed, thinking of what is best, asking God for help with these decisions. My agent Andrey Martinez was in Europe and has just arrived to talk to me about various situations. Obviously, there are options and we’ll analyse which is the best.’

He was also thoughtful on his time in Italy and the legacy he hoped to leave, adding: ‘I can only thank God for having eight years playing at that level. I dreamed of it, but didn’t think it would be like that, spending so long there.

‘I hope that in future Colombians who go to the likes of Juventus and Milan can leave this kind of legacy too. It fills me with pride.’

While Cuadrado will not be joining the Saudi League, several eye-catching names from across European football have made the switch this summer.

Ronaldo was the first star to move when he joined Al-Nassr over the winter, and his former Real Madrid teammate Karim Benzema has followed him by joining Al-Ittihad.

Edouard Mendy and Ruben Neves are among the first Premier League players to go, while Roberto Firmino was mobbed by jubilant fans in Jeddah after signing for Al-Ahli.

Steven Gerrard is the highest profile manager in the Saudi Pro League  after taking over Al-Ettifaq, while Robbie Fowler will coach second tier side Al-Qadsiah.
