Cristiano Ronaldo’s unlikely reaction to being substituted vs Inter Milan
Andrea Pirlo claims Cristiano Ronaldo was "happy" to be subbed off in Juventus ' win over Inter Milan.
The Portuguese star was hauled off after 70 minutes at the Allianz Stadium despite scoring his side's opener.
Ronaldo has previously made his frustrations clear when substituted this year, but on Saturday night he willingly came off and gave Pirlo a high five.
Juventus were down to 10 men following Rodrigo Bentancur's dismissal and the Juventus boss felt as if he needed to switch things up – a decision Ronaldo appeared to concur with.
"I think it was the first time he was happy to be subbed off," Pirlo told Sky Italia .
"We were one man down, and he'd have been chasing shadows. He was happy and smiling in the dressing room."
Ronaldo came off with the Bianconeri 2-1 ahead after Juan Cuadrado had put them back in front.
Giorgio Chiellini put through his own net with seven minutes remaining to level proceedings against the newly crowned Serie A champions.
But Cuadrado scored a late penalty to ensure Juventus kept their Champions League hopes alive.
They leapfrogged Napoli into fourth, but their rivals regained the position with a victory at Fiorentina on Sunday.
It means they hold a one-point advantage over Juventus with four teams eyeing three Champions League spots ahead of the season's final round of fixtures.
Pirlo insists any ramifications of missing out on the top four have not crossed his mind.
"I haven't thought about the future. I was only focused on today's game. We'll talk about the future later on," he claimed.
Ronaldo's future will also be called into question should Juventus find themselves out of the Champions League.
