Cristiano Ronaldo is reportedly allured by the prospect of an emotional return to Manchester United. The Juventus star spent six years at Old Trafford earlier in his career. And he was a huge hit, too, propelling the club to three straight Premier League titles and the 2008 Champions League crown.

Ronaldo has been a shining light amid a difficult campaign for Juventus.

Despite entering the twilight years of his career, the 36-year-old has still found the net 25 times from 28 Serie A games.

Ronaldo could leave Juventus this summer, however, with the Old Lady eager to balance the books in the wake of the coronavirus crisis.

Jettisoning the Portugal international, who earns roughly £350,000-a-week over in Italy, would be one way of straightening out their finances.

And La Gazzetta dello Sport claim Ronaldo is allured by the idea of returning to United when the transfer window reopens this summer.

It’s said he’d be willing to reduce his salary in order to make the move.

However, while that’s the case, he still wants to earn a net of around £20million each year.

It’s acknowledged that a move back to United is complicated but, in Ronaldo’s eyes, it’s still intriguing nonetheless.

Marcus Rashford currently occupies the forward’s preferred position on the left wing and is one of the first names on Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s team sheet.

But with United potentially needing a big name to replace Edinson Cavani, a move for Ronaldo could be sensationally on the cards.

Fans would likely love to have him back.

Ronaldo joined as a teenager back in the summer transfer window of 2003, replacing David Beckham following the England international’s move to Real Madrid.

He initially took some time to adjust to life in the Premier League.

But Ronaldo never looked back after the 2006 World Cup, propelling the club to three straight Premier League titles.

He also scored in the 2008 Champions League final victory over Chelsea, though did miss in the penalty shootout.

Ronaldo fired United to the 2009 Champions League final, too, but wasn’t able to end his time with the club on a high following a 2-0 defeat to Barcelona in Rome.

Meanwhile, former United star Luke Chadwick thinks the club should sign Ronaldo if he’s included as part of a swap deal for Paul Pogba.

“If United had the opportunity to sign Cristiano Ronaldo they’d be foolish to turn it down,” he told Caughtoffside.

“We’ve seen Cavani, who’s slightly younger, the impact he’s had. Ronaldo’s kept himself in great shape over the years, so I’m sure he’d still offer a huge amount.

“What he’s done at the club, he wouldn’t have to win too many fans over. It would be exciting to see him in the Premier League, but it’s probably quite a long shot really.”

Chadwick then added on Pogba: “I’m not sure if anyone’s worth £500-800k a week for playing a game of football, but that’s the way the game’s going, wages are going up and up.

“In my opinion there could be other avenues, you could pay for maybe two or three players with the money you’re talking about there.

“Obviously Pogba’s had a really good second half to the season, being one of United’s stand-out performers, but I don’t think he could really warrant those wages.

“If that’s what he’s demanding and there are other options in the transfer market, I’d certainly look to do that.

“I’m not sure Pogba or anyone – even Bruno Fernandes – is worth £800k a week.”
