Cristiano Ronaldo receives classy message from Pele after Man Utd return

Cristiano Ronaldo has received a classy message from football icon Pele on social media following the confirmation of his Manchester United return.

Ronaldo's move back to the Red Devils was made official on Transfer Deadline Day after he passed a medical in Portugal and the deal was wrapped up.

The 36-year-old took to Instagram to share his feelings on the switch from Juventus in a lengthy and emotional statement that he dedicated to former boss Sir Alex Ferguson.

Among the responses to the post was a touching comment from legendary Brazil striker Pele, whom presented him his second Balon d'Or in 2013.

Pele said: "There is no better feeling than conquering the world and returning home. Always be happy, Cristiano."

The two share a friendship that dates back a number of years. Pele made comment of it when he congratulated Ronaldo on breaking his all-time goals record earlier this year.

The Portugal captain could break the international goals record against Ireland on Wednesday night. He is currently tied with Iran's Ali Daei on 109.

There's two further games against Qatar and Azberbaijan during the international break for him to do it in should the Irish defence keep him at bay.

Then in just a week's time he could be back in Manchester preparing for his second United debut.

It looks set to come against Newcastle on September 11 in what could be the perfect homecoming at a packed out Old Trafford.

What number he'll be wearing is still up in the air, though. Dan James' move to Leeds has sparked suggestion Edinson Cavani will take the now vacant 21 shirt to hand Ronaldo the number seven.

He wrote on social media: "Guys, I didn't faint and I'm in very good health. I went for my routine exams, which I had not been able to do before because of the pandemic."

A representative of his has said he would be released from the hospital on Tuesday, the day he shared the post.
