Cristiano Ronaldo could be offered the chance to end his Manchester United nightmare in January by signing for Turkish giants Galatasaray. The 37-year-old has fallen out of favour at Old Trafford since the Red Devils appointed Erik ten Hag as their new boss in the summer and now has a diminishing role at the club.

Ronaldo hasn’t started a Premier League match since mid-August and has cut a frustrated figure on the United bench at times this season. On Sunday, the veteran didn’t even make it onto the pitch as United were humbled 6-3 by Manchester City at the Etihad Stadium.

Ronaldo’s contract is due to expire next summer, meaning he will be free to cut ties with the club once and for all. But he has been tipped to bring his association with the club to an end before that. And, according to Fotomac, Galatasaray are ready to go all out in January to entice the Portugal international to Istanbul.

Galatasaray chief Erden Timur is said to be in constant communication with Ronaldo and his representatives, with the Turkish club set to make all kinds of financial sacrifices to get their hands on the blockbuster star.

Timur, who has remained silent about his club’s interest in Ronaldo, is unable to offer the player Champions League football, which was apparently non-negotiable for the ace in the summer. But Ronaldo may be willing to have a rethink after struggling for gametime with his current employers.

Ronaldo enjoyed a fecund six-year spell at Old Trafford during the early days of his career after initially joining the club in 2003 from Sporting when Sir Alex Ferguson was in charge. And he won three Premier League titles, the Champions League and the Club World Cup during that stint, as well as getting his hands on the first of his five Ballon d’Or trophies.

Following nine years with Real Madrid and three years at Juventus, Ronaldo returned to Old Trafford last summer. And last season he was the club’s top scorer after bagging 24 goals in all competitions.

Ronaldo missed United’s pre-season tour in the summer, however, amid unrest over his future. And by the time he showed his face on the training pitch, he had been pushed onto the sidelines. After beginning the season as a substitute against Brighton, the striker was named in Ten Hag’s starting team for United’s trip to Brentford the following week. But he was unable to prevent a 4-0 hammering and hasn’t started a top-flight game since.
