Cristiano Ronaldo told reporters that his new club will be announced this evening – moments before Manchester United confirmed his return.
The 36-year-old was mobbed by reporters as he left Lisbon airport shortly after landing in his home country.
A medical is taking place in the country, ahead of his stunning return to United.
"In an hour they'll know where I'm playing," he is reported to have told the press before being bundled into a waiting car.
Friday began with Manchester City in pole position to sign the Portuguese superstar.
But as the Citizens finalised a deal for the attacker, United swooped in to hijack the move, securing a spectacular return for the club hero.
Ronaldo's Old Trafford return was almost agreed, with a €23m (19.7m) transfer fee on the table.
United will pay €15m (£12.9m) up front, with a further €8m (£6.9m) in add-ons.
United soon broke their silence too, confirming an agreement with Juventus.
"Manchester United is delighted to confirm that the club has reached agreement with Juventus for the transfer of Cristiano Ronaldo, subject to agreement of personal terms, visa and medical," a statement read.
"Cristiano, a five-time Ballon d’Or winner, has so far won over 30 major trophies during his career, including five UEFA Champions League titles, four FIFA Club World Cups, seven league titles in England, Spain and Italy, and the European Championship for his native Portugal.
"In his first spell for Manchester United, he scored 118 goals in 292 games.
"Everyone at the club looks forward to welcoming Cristiano back to Manchester."
Earlier in the day, Solskjaer confirmed he would be interested in a move for his former team-mate.
