Chelea’s Mykhailo Mudryk has been slammed on social media for sending a speculative long-range shot flying off towards the corner flag.
The incident came in the middle of a goalless first half at Stamford Bridge, with the Blues entertaining Sheffield United.
Second half goals from Cole Palmer and Nicolas Jackson gave Chelsea a 2-0 victory in the end, as the Blues looked to bounce back from consecutive defeats against Manchester United and Everton – but Mudryk’s miss was the first-half talking point.
Mudryk started the game against the Blades, and played 69 minutes, but the Ukrainian came under fire for his speculative shot in the 22nd minute, which swerved far wide and came closer to the corner flag than challenging Sheffield United goalkeeper Wes Foderingham.
A clip of the attempt was posted with the caption: ‘Mudryk attempts a long range shot but the ball goes towards the corner flag instead.’
