Chelsea’s make-or-break summer transfer plan should concern Liverpool
Midfielders are in demand this summer with all clubs at the top of the Premier League looking to bolster their options. Liverpool’s need to revamp things in the middle of the park has been clear to see all season long with Jude Bellingham originally seen as the No 1 target.
But they’ve already conceded defeat in a move for the England international before the transfer window has even opened. Instead, Liverpool will reportedly spread the funds put aside for this summer to target multiple signings.
A host of names are being linked, but they still might come up against Bellingham in the Premier League. Manchester City are now the frontrunners for his signature and have reportedly not been put off by Borussia Dortmund’s huge asking price.
Seeing Bellingham pull on the City kit from next season would come as a bitter blow to Liverpool fans to make Pep Guardiola’s side even stronger than they currently are. But it’s not only City’s interest in Bellingham that will have Liverpool concerned with Chelsea also in the market to bolster their engine room.
According to Spanish reports, Todd Boehly is pulling out all the stops to steal Gavi away from Barcelona. Both Bellingham and Gavi are regarded as two of the best young midfielders in European football and seeing both players join Premier League rivals would come as a devastating blow to Anfield officials.
The Blues are already holding conversations with Gavi’s representatives while City are said to be preparing an offer worth in the region of £130million for Bellingham. It puts even more pressure on Liverpool’s hierarchy to deliver in the summer transfer window and bring in players able to make an immediate impact for Klopp’s squad.

Fabinho and Jordan Henderson have suffered a dip in form this year while Thiago Alcantara has spent most of the campaign in the treatment room. And Liverpool are now at risk of being left behind by their rich Premier League rivals, with Manchester United also expected to be in the market for a midfielder.
Liverpool were always going to target multiple signings this summer, particularly with both Naby Keita and Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain leaving as free agents. But they find themselves already settling for second or even third best by opting out of a move for Bellingham.
And if Gavi also moves to the Premier League then Liverpool will have their work cut out finding players capable of matching their rivals in midfield.
