Fikayo Tomori ‘will fly to Italy to seal AC Milan loan move next week’ after they beat a host of clubs to the Chelsea defender… and the Serie A giants will have the option to sign him permanently for £27m this summer

  • Chelsea youngster Fikayo Tomori will reportedly join AC Milan on loan next week
  • The Serie A side have discussed a loan bid plus £27million option to buy recently
  • Tomori has played just 45 Premier League minutes for Chelsea all season
  • Blues manager Frank Lampard insists Tomori has a long-term future at Chelsea

Chelsea defender Fikayo Tomori will fly to Italy over the coming days to complete a loan deal to Serie A leaders AC Milan, according to reports.

The 23-year-old defender has been limited to four appearances in all competitions for Frank Lampard’s Blues so far this season, including just 45 minutes of Premier League football.

Sportsmail revealed earlier this week that Italian side Milan had been stepping up talks to sign Tomori on a six-month loan deal with an option to buy for £27million.

Tomori is expected to join Stefano Pioli’s Milan – who currently lead the Serie A table – on loan

And according to Italian sports journalist Fabrizio Romano, Tomori’s loan move to AC Milan will be completed next week with the defender set to travel to Italy imminently.

Milan had been hoping to sign Strasbourg’s Mohamed Simakan but the 20-year-old is leaning towards a move to Red Bull Leipzig where he is viewed as a potential replacement for Dayot Upamecano this summer.

Tomori had interest from Newcastle United among others in England plus clubs in LaLiga but is keen on playing in Italy and Chelsea see it as a good move for his development.

But despite an imminent move away from Stamford Bridge this month, Tomori still has a long-term future at Chelsea according to Blues boss Lampard.

‘Fikayo Tomori absolutely has a long-term future at this club, and we’ll see if and when he goes on loan,’ said Lampard ahead of his side’s clash against Fulham on Saturday.

‘The moment I got close to Fikayo was when I took him to Derby with me and he was Player of the Year there and one of the best players in the Championship that year in my opinion.

‘And then he came back and played 20-plus games for us at a very young age last year and got in the England squad. There’s an absolute long-term plan for Fikayo in my head about his career here.

‘And if it’s to go and play games it’s to absolutely enhance his personal development. Hopefully help whatever team he goes to, because that will come hand in hand, and then come back to us a better player.’

Chelsea are also willing to listen to offers for Antonio Rudiger and Andreas Christensen. Rudiger played the whole 90 minutes of Chelsea’s 1-0 victory over 10-man Fulham in the Premier League on Saturday evening.
