Chelsea may have to turn to alternative targets after Inter Milan striker Romelu Lukaku appeared to rule out a return to the Premier League club. Here, Express Sport looks at three strikers Thomas Tuchel still has on his radar ahead of the summer transfer window.
Lukaku has put himself firmly in Chelsea’s sights after scoring 27 goals in all competitions to spearhead Inter’s Serie A title triumph.
But his comments after Antonio Conte’s side were crowned champions appeared to suggest that he is staying put at the San Siro.
“I am so happy for all the Inter fans in the world, for the team, the staff, the president and everyone,” the Belgian told Sky Sport Italia. “I am truly proud to play for Inter.”
The former Manchester United and Everton striker said this season had been the best of his career, adding: “It’s wonderful and I hope to continue like this. I am truly so happy.”
But with Lukaku appearing to rule himself out of a return to Stamford Bridge, Tuchel can turn his attention to three other targets.
JUST IN: Chelsea can use Fernando Torres experience to sign Erling Haaland
Erling Haaland
Haaland is set to be the talk of the transfer window, with top clubs around the continent hoping to land the Borussia Dortmund hotshot.
But the Bundesliga club are adamant the striker will be staying for another campaign, with CEO Hans-Joachim Watzke saying Haaland “will remain a Borussia Dortmund player next year”.
Even if Dortmund do decide to sell, Chelsea will face tough competition to land the 20-year-old, who has scored 37 goals in all competitions this season.
Manchester United, Manchester City, Real Madrid and Barcelona have all been credited with interest in Haaland – which could push his transfer fee above the £150million mark.
DON’T MISS
Sergio Aguero
Sergio Aguero will be available on a free transfer this summer when his City contract expires, bringing to an end a trophy-laden decade at the Etihad.
The 32-year-old has been sparsely used by Pep Guardiola this term after suffering with injuries and a coronavirus-induced absence.
But he showed he still has the killer instinct which has made him City’s all-time leading scorer when he fired his 258th goal for the club with a thunderous finish in Saturday’s 2-0 win over Crystal Palace.
A fully fit Aguero will be a bargain this summer – and if he can put his injury issues behind him and rediscover his best form he’s an absolute no-brainer.
Harry Kane
The Premier League’s top scorer has been linked with a move this summer amid questions over whether he can fulfil his ambitions with Tottenham.
United and City have been both touted as potential destinations for Kane, although much could depend on who is in charge at Spurs next season.
Interim boss Ryan Mason has guided the side to wins in their last two league games, sparking hopes in North London that Spurs could beat Chelsea to Champions League qualification.
if he does decide to leave, he brings guaranteed goals for a transfer fee likely to be above £100m – but it is highly unlikely Tottenham chairman Daniel Levy would sanction a sale to his club’s capital rivals.
