Chelsea have approached Juventus in a bid to start talks over the transfer of Federico Chiesa, according to reports. The forward enjoyed an impressive Euro 2020 campaign with winners Italy and has been linked with some of Europe’s biggest clubs this summer.
Chiesa was an essential part of Andrea Pirlo’s plans at Juventus last season, featuring heavily alongside Cristiano Ronaldo in attack.
In his debut campaign after joining from Fiorentina, the 23-year-old made 46 appearances in all competitions, scoring 15 goals and registering 11 assists.
He has already earned 32 international caps, scoring three goals, with two of them coming in Italy’s triumphant Euro 2020 run.
Chiesa scored the opener against Austria in the last 16 before netting against Spain in the semi-finals, and he was also excellent against England in the final.
His displays this summer have unsurprisingly prompted speculation about a big-money move away from Turin.

However, Juventus seem intent on keeping the exciting winger around under Massimiliano Allegri.
According to BILD’s Christian Falk, Chelsea have asked Juventus for Chiesa and placed £85.1million (€100m) as a basis for negotiation.
However, Falk claims the Serie A outfit have declined talks altogether, with Chiesa seemingly not for sale.
Last week, Fabrizio Romano reported that Juventus have no intention to entertain talks over the Italy international’s departure.
Juventus consider Chiesa ‘untouchable’ as they look to build towards a solid future under the guidance of returning manager Allegri.
Bayern Munich have also been linked with an interest in Chiesa’s signature this summer.
However, new manager Julian Nagelsmann has ruled out a move because of the meteoric rise in his price tag.
He told BILD: “Yes, he’s good, but he’s expensive, too. He’s a top player with incredible drive.
“I’ve known him for a long time and I find him exceptional because he often goes for a one-on-one, he tries to shoot very fast.”
Chelsea are gearing up for another monumental summer transfer window, Thomas Tuchel’s first as manager.
After guiding the club to Champions League glory last season, Tuchel will be expecting to receive backing ahead of the 2021/22 campaign.
The Blues have been heavily linked with interest in Borussia Dortmund’s superstar striker Erling Haaland.
After recruiting Hakim Ziyech, Kai Havertz and Timo Werner last year, it seems like Chelsea are once again focusing on top-class attacking talent.
Chiesa was always going to be invaluable to Juventus. Now he’s going the right way to meeting his potential, he’s unlikely to be arriving at Stamford Bridge or anywhere else for some time.
