Chelsea urged to snub ‘arrogant’ Mourinho for ‘perfect’ Pochettino

Chelsea caretaker manager Frank Lampard reviews Wolves defeat

Chelsea co-owner Todd Boehly has been warned against bringing Jose Mourinho back for his third stint at Stamford Bridge as a successor to Frank Lampard. Blues legend Lampard sensationally took over on a temporary basis until the end of the season following Graham Potter’s sacking and an exhaustive search is said to be ongoing to find the next permanent Chelsea head coach.

With Lampard not expected to remain in the job beyond this season, Mourinho has been mentioned as one of the names who could take over as there are concerns that he feels that he is not backed financially at Roma.

The Portuguese coach won three Premier League titles across his first two spells at the club, but former Blues defender Paul Parker has urged Boehly against naming Mourinho the club’s next boss.

“The last person I want to watch at Chelsea is Jose Mourinho, Parker told SpilXperten. “And I don’t think that Chelsea wants him back for the third time. They are tired of his arrogance and they have to move on even though it would be typical for Chelsea to do something like that and hire him.”

Mourinho is reportedly on a long list of potential hires as Boehly and co are expected to vet and interview the likes of Julian Nagelsmann, Mauricio Pochettino, Carlo Ancelotti and Oliver Glasner among others. Parker believes that former Tottenham boss Pochettino would be the “perfect” fit for Chelsea however, as Boehly is under pressure to get this decision right.

“I think that Chelsea should do everything in their power to get Pochettino,” he added. “He is the perfect manager for them. People were criticising him after he left PSG, which is miserable. That club is outrageous and if you´re not winning the Champions League you´re going to be sacked.

“He did amazingly well with Tottenham. He got them into the top four, he took them to the Champions League final and the fans loved him. He plays entertaining football and he could do big things with Chelsea.”

Mourinho has been said to be open to a Chelsea return should the club wish to re-appoint him, having previously contacted the club in January to state that he would be interested in returning should the position become vacant – which it since has as a result of Potter’s firing.

Whether Pochettino would be prepared to move to Stamford Bridge remains to be seen, as the former Spurs boss has previously insisted that he would not join his team’s rivals. He rejected reported interest from Barcelona due to his Espanyol connections and claimed that he would not take up a position at Arsenal, having spent five years on the other side of north London.
