Chelsea transfer target Gianluigi Donnarumma has received a huge contract offer to leave AC Milan on a free this summer, reports suggest. Donnarumma could walk away from the San Siro after nearly 250 appearances.
Donnarumma is set to be a man in demand this summer.
The 22-year-old is considered to be one of the best young goalkeepers in the world, having made his debut for Milan aged just 16.
He’s been at Milan since the age of 14, after he was bought for £214,000 from Napoli’s academy.
But with just months to go on his current contract, he’s yet to sign an extension.
Mino Raiola is working on a new deal for the star, but it seems his future lies away from the San Siro.
Milan have offered him a bumper new contract worth £6.8million per season, but he has received a much larger offer from elsewhere.
Reports in Italian outlet Gazzetta Dello Sport claim Donnarumma has been offered £10.2m a year from an un-named club.
That £10.2 yearly salary is apparently what Raiola has been demanding from any interested clubs.
Paris Saint-Germain are said to be challenging Chelsea for his signature, and could well be the mystery club who have tabled the new offer.
The French champions want a long-term replacement for Kaylor Navas and certainly have money to throw around.
Donnarumma hasn’t commented publicly on the speculation, and appears to be unwilling to commit himself either way.
But former Milan manager Massimiliano Mirabelli has opened up on the work he did to secure Donnarumma to a new contract back in 2016 when he signed a new professional deal.
Speaking to Libero, via Milan Report, he suggested that Milan should never have let negotiations get to this point.
He said: “Milan made a mistake in reaching this situation. The times are wrong, it is absurd to negotiate now.
“The contract had to be renewed a few seasons ago”
He also opened up on the difficulties of dealing with Raiola.
Mirabelli suggested that the super-agent created problems within negotiations and almost walked away from the deal.
“I took care of the negotiation down to the smallest detail,” he continued.
“Raiola had Donnarumma put posts on instagram. I canceled them.
“The decisive moment was just before the signing. Raiola stood up and said that they would not renew.
“There was also Donnarumma’s family. When Raiola [left] Donnarumma took the pen and signed.”
