Chelsea target Real ace Casemiro considered "one of the best in the world"

Chelsea are reportedly plotting a £51million swoop for Real Madrid midfielder Casemiro – who has previously been hailed as "one of the best midfielders in the world".

The Brazilian ace has established himself as one of the finest defensive midfielders in Europe over the past few years.

His form for the Spanish giants has attracted the attention of a host of Europe's top clubs – which could see the Blues face a transfer scramble to get their man.

Despite his impressive service over the past few years, it now seems that Real are ready to cash in on the midfielder after his poor start to the current La Liga season.

And according to a new report from El Nacional, that stance has alerted the Blues.

The report goes on to outline that the Blues' main competition for Casemiro's signature would likely be French giants Paris Saint-Germain – although Chelsea appear to be in the driving seat.

But if they can strike a deal for Casemiro, they'd be getting one of the "best" players in the world.

That's according to the midfield maestro's old Brazil U20 coach, Ney Franco, who was speaking back in 2018.

"In Europe, he at first had some difficulty and was loaned to Porto, but it worked well for him because he found an easier adaptive football and was more mature emotionally," Franco previously told Goal.

"He had a good season in Porto and returned to Real Madrid with more confidence and better known both by the club and the press.

"This made a difference because it created a better environment for him to play. He is a talented, technical player of great quality, but he is also very tactical. He is one of the best defensive midfielders in the world."

A move for Casemiro makes perfect sense amid Chelsea's ongoing injury crisis in the engine room.

Blues boss Thomas Tuchel has seen his midfield ravaged by injury this year – so much so that he deployed Reece James and Ross Barkley as an emergency midfield pairing in the 3-3 draw with Zenit St Petersburg in the Champions League on Wednesday night.

N'Golo Kante has also been hampered by injury problems over the past couple of seasons and there has been speculation over Ballon d'Or nominee Jorginho's future too.

The Italian midfielder has previously flirted with a return to Serie A. Juventus were one of the teams credited with an interest in the 29-year-old according to reports just last month.
