Borussia Dortmund have reinforced their ‘clear’ stance on Erling Haaland’s future in a major blow to Chelsea’s summer transfer plans.

Blues boss Thomas Tuchel wants a new forward this summer after seeing his side frequently misfire following his appointment in January.

Chelsea embarked on an incredible run under the German but were often criticised for not being sufficiently clinical.

The £47million summer signing Timo Werner’s struggles were particularly highlighted having struck just six Premier League goals all campaign.

Midfielder Jorginho was the club’s top scorer in the league despite all seven of his goals being penalties.

Chelsea have earmarked Haaland as a possible long-term striker but have suffered another blow in their pursuit of the 21-year-old.

The west Londoners have already been told that they will need to smash a club recording by paying a huge £150million fee.

But now Dortmund CEO Hans-Joachim Watzke has said that he believes it is ‘clear’ that Haaland will stay with the Bundesliga club for another season.

He also confirmed that Julian Brandt, who has interest from elsewhere, will remain.

“It is pretty clear to me that Erling Haaland will stay at Dortmund, just Julian Brandt will remain,” Watzke’s told Dortmund’s in-house media channel.

“I tend to say that every day but no one really seems to listen as I hear something new every week.

“To us, it is pretty clear that we will have Julian Brandt for the upcoming season.

“I hope that he will have a great season with us this year.

“I hope that he will be able to exploit his strong potential and tap into more of the talent that he clearly has.

“Julian is a great guy and I really like him. If he has a strong season then it will be great for all of us.

“It would never have made sense to give him away.

“It was never the topic of discussion of anyone here at Dortmund.”

Chelsea might now need to wait until next summer to sign Haaland, who has a £64m transfer release clause become active in his contract in June 2022.

Boss Tuchel also wants additions to other areas of his squad.

The Chelsea transfer hierarchy are reportedly in discussions over a deal for Sevilla centre-back Jules Kounde, who could cost around £30m plus Kurt Zouma.

A midfielder is also believed to be high on the wish list.

Former academy prospect Declan Rice, now of West Ham, has been linked but could cost close to £80m. Monaco’s Aurelien Tchouameni is a cheaper alternative.
