Chelsea stars set to share £5m bonus but could still double huge earnings
Chelsea stars are in line to scoop a whopping £10million bonus – but only if they can win the Champions League.
The team have already secured a £5million payday just for reaching the final later this month.
And that will be doubled if Thomas Tuchel’s men wrap up a historic victory against Manchester City in Istanbul.
Bosses agreed the bonus package at the start of the season when Chelsea were unfancied to have a run in the competition.
But Tuchel has instilled new belief around Stamford Bridge since taking over from Frank Lampard and will be confident of seeing the job through after getting the better of Pep Guardiola in the FA Cup last month.
Chelsea will still be underdogs in the final, but that won’t stop them giving it their all against treble-chasing City.
Mason Mount and Timo Werner scored the goals to send Chelsea through 3-1 on aggregate against Real Madrid earlier in the week.
City produced a convincing 4-1 aggregate win over Paris Saint-Germain to reach their first ever Champions League final.
Tuchel has acknowledged the task facing Chelsea in the final but has promised his side will not just make up the numbers and are ‘there to win.’
“It gives us a good feeling, it gives us self-confidence,” Tuchel said. “We played that semi-final on the edge and we used it because Bayern Munich, with Manchester City, are the benchmark.
“We wanted to close the gap to Man City in the semi-final, which we did and we will need the same level of performance again. But it gave us belief for every game after that because it’s the highest level you can face.
“We have these huge challenges in Premier League. We came out of it very strongly, so we will arrive with confidence and a positive energy in Istanbul, hopefully with no injured players.
“We will arrive in Istanbul to win, not to be one of the participants.”
