Chelsea star Jorginho cheekily shares video after proving Rio Ferdinand wrong

Chelsea midfielder Jorginho has cheekily shared a video on social media that pokes fun at criticism Rio Ferdinand levelled at him during his first season with the club.

In the TikTok he posted to his Instagram story, Jorginho is shown sitting on the Chelsea bench back in the 2019/20 season before showing Ferdinand slating his defensive ability.

The clip then ends with Jorginho receiving his UEFA Player of the Year award at Stamford Bridge on Tuesday night from UEFA president Aleksander Ceferin.

Jorginho has won the Champions League and the Euros this year and is being tipped to challenge for the Ballon d'Or.

In the clip, Ferdinand is shown criticising Jorginho after a match in January 2019, as he says "He's not a great defender. Once the game gets like this the big teams, he gets overrun in midfield. He can't run."

Jorginho had endured a difficult start to life in west London after arriving at the club in the summer of 2018 for £50million from Napoli.

However, he has grown into his role at the club and enjoyed an impressive run of form in 2021 that has delivered silverware for both club and country.

As well as winning the Euros this summer, Jorginho was also included in the team of the tournament and named as the tournament's best midfielder.

He now has 17 goals in 147 Chelsea appearances and, after playing 90 minutes against Zenit in Chelsea's Champions League opener, has featured in every match so far this season.

Jorginho was not the only Chelsea player to receive an award on Tuesday, either, as Edouard Mendy and N'Golo Kante were handed their goalkeeper and midfielder of the year awards.

Manager Thomas Tuchel was also presented with his UEFA Coach of the Year trophy after guiding Chelsea to their second European title after just four months at the club.
